This is something I've been meaning to blog about for AGES! Seriously- about 18 months! I usually give customers a bit of a run down of it before their session but actually it is probably handy for lots of families out there who are planning a photography session.
The main idea is for your photos not to date too quickly- think of the mockable 80's family photos that pop up on facebook memes? Lets avoid that!
For my sessions you'll probably have noticed that my outdoor work is quite colourful, contrasting and bold, and that my studio work is white, neutrals and bright so really I would dress according to what type of session you are having and where it is (please see my 'what to expect' page for recommendations before sessions).
Basically the same colour but different tones- sky blue, navy and white together for example, or light brown, mid-tone brown and dark brown- this is a really easy way to tie everybody in together for a session and have you all coordinated without looking too matching.
BOLD AND COLOURFUL
Outside this is just amazing- imagine a mustardy yellow, a dark red and a bold green against a sunset- bliss!
Colour wheels can help you if you get stuck you can pick side by side colours, opposing colours or tertiary colours and guarantee they will look good together!
My favourites- whites, creams, greys and blacks... they go with any skin tone, always make my subjects pop and don't overshadow them. You can pick warmer tones or cooler ones depending on the feel you'd like in the images.
